Judge Sandua right, left Judge Manuel Avarez Urbon
In January 2009, I traveled to Spain to the city of Zaragoza and to the city of Lugo in Galicia. In Zaragoza I met the judge of the show Mr. Sadua, and Mr. Antonio Herrera, President of the club in Zaragoza, as well as other members and breeders. This is one of the best shows in Spain because of the competitiveness and the quality of the birds. Many of the best breeders throughout Spain meet in this show in the city of Zaragoza to present their best singers, and the competition is fierce and ruthless. If you would like to meet and listen in person to those discontinuous Timbrado that you can only hear in Spain, then you should definitely go to this show. This is a most if you like to see one of the most important cradles of the discontinuous Timbrado. Besides enjoying the music from these magnificent discontinuous Timbrados, the city center is spectacular with its plaza and ancient architectures. I recommend a visit to the Cathedral del Pilar. The Baroque Basilica-Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pillar or Virgin of Pilar Basilica (Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar) is the most important Zaragoza’s masterpiece, it was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. The basilica has several towers, and you can see some of those pictures that I took while I was there to the right of this page. The show lasted for several days, and every night after the show all the breeders would get together for dinner in nearby restaurant, all of this was a wonderful experience, and you can feel the camaraderie atmosphere in these events.

The second show I went while I was in Spain was to the Show in Lugo, Galicia. This is another big show where you can find singers of the best quality, and breeders from all over Spain come to this show. Although it was cold and raining when I got there, I received a very warm welcome by the Canary Society of Lugo (La Sociedad Lucense de Canaricultura). I was treated like a king while I was there. Besides delighting with the music from those glorious Timbrados, Lugo has a rich cultural heritage dated way before the Roman colonization of this land. I went to the center of Lugo. In the center of Lugo you would find the Lugo's old Roman Wall. The cathedral of Lugo is located just inside Lugo’s old Roman wall and you can descend a flight of stairs from the wall that delivers you directly into the cathedral’s main forecourt. After nourishing your senses with the music from these wonderful creatures, the discontinuous Timbrados, and sight with the impressive Roman’s wall, and Lugo majestic Cathedral, the occasion is right to enjoy some of the finest food from Spain. The food from Galicia has a distinctive flavor that makes it unique. I’m sure you would agree with me once you visit Galicia and try one of the many popular dishes.
